2023 Presidency: ‘Southern Governors Are A Threat To Our Country’s Democracy’ – NEF Alleges

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has once again slammed the governors of the Southern region, accusing them of being a threat to the country’s democracy. The NEF also commended the governors in the North for rejecting the demand made by their southern counterparts to shift power to the south come 2023.

Hakeem Baba Ahmed

This was contained in a statement issued by the Spokesman to the Northern Elders Forum, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed during a press conference in Kaduna State on Tuesday.

According to Baba-Ahmed, the demands made by the southern governors on the 2023 presidency were not only unacceptable, but the governors themselves constituted a threat to Nigeria’s democracy by putting forward such a demand.

He said that any president to be elected in the country should be done democratically and not threats and intimidations. Re-echoing the words of the northern governors, Baba-Ahmed insisted that a rotational presidency is unconstitutional and should not be entertained at any point in Nigeria’s budding democracy.

According to him, the NEF aims to ensure that Nigerians in the South recognize the fact the nation’s democratic values were still on the ground and sacrosanct. These values, he said, are not negotiable, and as such, southern governors cannot use force the movement of power in whichever direction they wish.
