The days ahead in PDP will be intriguing as there might be breaks in the party after the zoning committee headed by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has finished up its task and is set to answer to the NEC of the PDP.
It shows up some Southern PDP politicians are ascending to the desires of numerous Southerners that the South should produce the next President of Nigeria.
According to Nation newspaper, Southern PDP Governors are ganging up to stop the 2023 PDP Northern presidential candidate which many Northern politicians in the party have proposed even as Governor Seyi Makinde is in support that the North should grab the 2023 presidential ticket of the PDP.
All the Southern PDP Governors except Governor Seyi Makinde are insisting that the decision of the Southern Governors that power must shift to the South in 2023 is where they stand.
With how things are going on, the Southern PDP Governors may reject the zoning formula which Governor Ugwuanyi recommended because it favoured the North.
The argument is: How can another Northerner take over from Buhari after the incumbent President must have completed his 8 years by 2023? Are you aware that the next Northern President will like to do another 8 years?
Former Senate President of Nigeria, Anyim Pius Anyim who appears to be the only voice from the South-East is seriously giving the Southern Governors reason why they should reject this zoning formula that favoured the North.
Why is Governor Seyi Makinde supporting the North?
My opinion is that it is about his personal interest. He believes that the zoning formula will make it easy for the South-West to produce the National Chairman of the PDP which will see his candidate, Eyitayo Jegede emerge as the next national chairman of the PDP.
Makinde knows that having his political associate as the next national chairman of the PDP will make him influential in the party.
But he is alone on this because other Southern PDP Governors are set to reject zoning the 2023 presidential ticket of the PDP to the North.
