The joy of the parish priest and parishioners of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Amakama Umuahia knew no bounds as they played host to the Chief Shepherd of Umuahia, Most Rev. L. I. Ugorji during his pastoral visit. The visit offered the Bishop the opportunity to assess the spiritual growth recorded by the parish since his last visit and to administer the sacrament of Confirmation to deserving candidates.

The Mass which was presided over by Most Rev. Lucius Ugorji was assisted by the parish priest, Very Rev. Fr. Christopher Nwachukwu.
In his homily, Bishop Ugorji observed that lips service to God is a cankerworm that is destroying the fabrics of Christian life. ‘Serving God demands commitment and wholeheartedness from Christians’, Bishop Ugorji said.
Recall that the first reading of the day was taken from the book of Deuteronomy- 4:1-2,6-8, and the second taken from the book of James- 1:17-18,21-22,27. And the Gospel was taken from Mark- 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23.

The Bishop harped on the need to maintain purity of heart as against paying much attention to externals. Bishop Ugorji frowned at Christians who profess Christ but live contrary to the commandments of God. This he called hypocrisy. Turning to the candidates of Confirmation, he urged them to be open-minded to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. “Do not conform yourselves to the standard of the world but let the spirit of God be your rule of life”, Bishop Ugorji advised.

In a welcome address presented by Mazi Jude C. Okamgba, the entire members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Amakama remain ever grateful to Our Lordship Most Rev. Lucius I. Ugorji, Bishop of Umuahia Diocese for all his spiritual and moral support.
The address reads in part: “We also express our profound gratitude to our lordship for the support and palliatives received during the Covid-19 outbreak”.

“We are happy to note, fellow faithful, that each of the priests posted to this community has left one memorable legacy or the other for which he is remembered. Our present parish priest will certainly lead us to greater height. We appreciate his spirited efforts to get to this stage of Cladding the Church with Aluminum Long span in a record time”.
“With me that given the tempo and posture now on course, we are sure to achieve completion of the church building and Presbytery, dedication and full “Parish Status” under Rev. Fr. Christopher Nwachukwu”, the address concluded.
